Athena - ecoFAB Trash Couture 2012 (rebirth of Athena now)

1,850.00

I made four dresses for this event, the competition is fierce and the creations are stunning. This is the third of my four dresses, "Athena". I took Athena and turned it into a triptych. (see work here http://www.flavia-lovatelli.com/catalog/rebirth-of-athena). The price above reflects the cost of commissioning a duplicate of this piece.

Athena is made in two pieces, the bakless top has straps that go over the shoulders and criss cross in the back to tie around the waist. the Brests are made of coiled recycled magazine and they are perfect and stunning. I painted my signature doodles all over the dress to give it more spunk. Added some textbook papers in random sequence on the top to give it some more strength and doodled on them I also added one large coil to one of the straps.

the skirt is made with large petal like shapes, I pleated the waist to give it form, this paper was the backing to some laminated vinyl and the laminate overflows the vinyl this is what makes up the waistband.  the petals are all individually edged with square yarn to give it strength and durability . I have added one of my signature coiled paper belts to give it elegance. The skirt ties in the back with two coiled hoops and leather.

the head piece is made from the scraps of my petals and one coiled paper buttons, it has a comb in it so that you can fast it onto your hair.

Athena, is the first of the dresses that I started but the third I finished. she is beautiful and obviously functional as you can see the model wore it with ease and fluidity and it is amazingly sturdy. This event has been so exciting that my group of friends and I will be returning every year and try, best we can to outdo ourselves. Follow us on www.ecofabtrashcouture.com to see when are the next shows.

I welcome commission work, if you like this design or if you want a different look, let me know, I'll make one just for you! All I need is 6 weeks time to make it.
