AMPHITRITE - 2017 ecoFAB Trash Couture

5,300.00

white recycled plastic bags, recycled glow sticks, straws, plastic cups and paper. Named after the greek goddess of the sea, Amphitrite is made entirely out of recycled plastic; plastic cups, plastic bags and paper of course. The cups I recycled from my hometown Columbia, we have monthly art crawls where everyone serves wine or beer in plastic cups, I was working on a couple of installation projects and thought of making the top out of the plastic cups. Once the top was done I had the idea of adding the white paper cones to them for that wow factor. The plastic bags used in the hoop "skirt" were in part; part of the homeless bedroll project scraps and any other white plastic bags recycled from friends. The hoops are made with recycled glow in the dark sticks I had collected from a fair, they are the necklace length. I glued them together to make the hoops and tied a million of the handles I saved from the bedroll project and short strips of the plastic bags I cut for this purpose. I then tied the hoops with cotton yarn and covered them with clear soda straws. To make the bloomers I ironed several sheets of plastic on top of lace to give it the lacy look. Between gathering the materials, cleaning, planning, cutting, tying the strips and all,  Amphitrite took me four months to make.
