Creatures of habits are we! If you take a good observation of yourself you notice that you tend to gravitate towards the same colors, the same foods, the same places etc. We are creatures of habit and keep within the boundaries of our comfort zones. Rarely do we push past those... usually when someone or something new makes its way into your bubble do you even attempt to experiment... in my case, I realized I have a set palette of colors I seem to gravitate to when painting, but oh, when I see someone else work with vibrant colors I am mesmerized and go crazy about their work, wanting to own it, love it, stare at it. Then I think why haven't I thought of using vibrant colors... because they are not really yours... I am the browns, the okras, the blues and deep reds. So, I built this canvas to create an incredible painting, a painting that would not fit in the usual box I put myself in. Stepping out of my traditional earth tone colors, because I am evolving, I am growing. This painting was a complete stretch for me, so much so that I worked on it for six months, constructing and deconstructing it because it wouldn't fit my mold. At the time I was working on my Trashion (trash-fashion) Coffee bag hemp dress, "Coffee of Me" dress and had all this loose hemp threads that I set aside for my next painting, loved the earthy look of it, the tangled mess was inspiring. I love marrying static and movement, matte and gloss, lights and darks. In this piece I was able to get all my passions in. It was a struggled and tortuous experience that left me exhilarated at the final accomplishment. I am absolutely ecstatic with this piece. It is vibrant, alive, and full of life.
