"What You Are Made Of" is a study of my children, revealing their core interests, their principal motivator, their true colors. I love my kids and think they are beautiful, inside and out. I periodically create pieces about my children, they are brilliant, funny and completely different from each other. Katie (far left) is spicy, straight forward and all about looks and beauty. She wants to become a designer or a stylist or personal shopper, she is young therefore not sure yet exactly which one. That is why I went with the abstracty high fashion make up direction.
Alex, her twin brothers face has numbers because he is all about the math, precision and analysis, he is still unsure on what he wants to be when he grows up, but he is toying with engineering, gaming or medicine.
Maddie is the oldest of the three yet not much older than the twins is all about books, a bookworm and blogger she is about the written word. She is contemplating pursuing marine biology as her career path. This piece was inspired by my children and my coils. I wanted to meld the two together, I made casts of their faces and installed them on the canvas board I built for this piece. Pursuing my recyclable spirit and my desire for texture I have pasted recycled coffee filters, wallpaper, paper clay I made and various other found objects. I have also chosen to depict Alex's hair with large hole coils to depict his curly hair.
